Details of the Vatican Museum
If you have ever been to the Vatican Museum, then you know that it takes hours to walk through, even if you don’t stop to admire any of the artifacts. Although there are plenty of really interesting and important objects in the museum, I find myself looking at the building itself more than anything. Built essentially as a palace in many different sections, each carrying some of the personality of the pope of the time, in no other building can you see ornately decorated baroque decor along side huge mosaic floors taken from ancient roman buildings. The museum also benefits from the Vatican mosaic school’s handiwork. This is a must see if you are in the neighborhood.
